Leadership
and Community Development (LCD)
is a programmed effort by Imperial
College of Business Studies (ICBS) to
build a strong relationship bridge between the campus and the community.
It aims to enrich the life of the student and the community by combining
the concept of “doing well “with “doing good”.
Most
of our students come from strong and stable socio economic backgrounds
and have rarely been exposed to the ruthless realities of life. They
are unfamiliar with the joys of sharing with the underprivileged, doing
things for others and working for the uplift of society. This project
aims to build a deepened sense of social responsibility. The students
can use their knowledge to address the real life social, economic, health,
educational and environmental problems and can also have the opportunity
to make a positive difference to the world.
Direct
experience is one of the best ways to learn and develop personally,
professionally and academically and this program is a unique and thoughtfully
planned experiential learning activity that requires the students to
work for the improvement of the community. The students are given the
liberty to creatively design their own projects or work with existing
social organizations. The program is conducted as a two credit hour
compulsory course and the students are required to put in at least 6
to 8 hours of community work every week for a period of twelve weeks.
In
this process the university benefits by graduating students who are
well-rounded and socially responsible individuals.
