Project Description
Every now and then, one hears of a family member, a relative,
a close friend or a complete stranger who has been unfortunate
enough to experience something close to death – an accident
that could change the lives of many.
Moving
around with our hands and legs in place, rarely does anyone
think about the crude realities of life of a person who has
lost these blessings. All because of an incident, it is referred
to as his fate - an Accident.
With
broken roads, missing sign boards, lagging traffic signals,
absence of painted speed breakers, no zebra crossings, hardly
any reflecting mirrors, a lot of blind turns and foot paths
that are never meant to be used, our country’s traffic
system is in complete disorder. Given the rate at which accidents
are increasing day by day, the situation is saddening and the
results - shocking.
Walking
along these lines, the students of ICBS have taken an initiative
under LCD (leadership and community development) program, to
help this city of Lahore to have an efficient and safer traffic
system. Our aim is to paint speed breakers which will help avoid
sudden breaks and major jumps while driving. We will also be
putting up sign boards and reflective mirrors at various points
and blind turns to make driving on these roads safer.
We
also plan to meet officials at the Traffic Authority in order
to highlight the issues prevailing in the current situation
and decide about what can be done to make our roads safer and
request the concerned authorities to take our initiative forward
in the long run so that our effort does not get wasted. Our
project will also include awareness campaigns in schools and
colleges.
Objective
An initiative to improve the existing roads and traffic conditions
leading to fewer accidents and ensuring the safety of people.
Also our awareness campaign would help to make youth, aware
of the hazardous effects of irresponsible driving.
Target
market
Students, traffic department and places where there are unpainted
speed breakers and blind turns and no sign boards like Faisal
town, Cavalry Ground, Shadman, Samanabad etc.

Project
Status
This group painted speed breakers in the areas of Shadman, Johar
Town, Mason Road and Samanabad and worked very closely with
the traffic police department and conducted a awareness seminars
about traffic rules for school children.
