Project Description
Hazardous working conditions result in hundreds of innocent
worker deaths every year in Pakistan. There is an immediate
need to execute a factory workers safety awareness campaign
to create awareness about this alarming issue.
Also
there is an immediate need to draw the attention of concerned
public authorities (Ministry of Labor and Man power, Pakistan
Institute of Labor Education and Research, Directorate of Labor
Welfare Punjab, Employee Social Security Department etc) and
non public authorities (Pakistan Workers Federation, National
Labor Federation and other NGO’s) towards this matter.
During
the last decade 50% increase in fatal industrial accidents per
1000 workers has been reported in Pakistan. Almost 70-80% small
and medium sized industries are not following the safety and
health rules as devised by the ILO and United Nations regulations.
Both workers and employers have a legal responsibility to look
after health and safety at work.
We
intend to create awareness amongst labor and factory owners
about international safety regulations and implementation. We
will visit factories that are not following ILO and UNO provisions
and provide information regarding safety measures that should
be implemented by them. We shall provide them safety tools,
shoes, pads, goggles, jackets, climbing ropes, clumps; helmets,
gloves, oxygen masks, dust and gas masks, and fire extinguishing
equipment, first aid kits and training about how to give aid
in an emergency. Our lectures will tell them how to prevent
accidents in the workplace and how to react in times of crises
like earthquakes and fires.
Objective
To provide a safe and risk free working environment to workers.
